We care about your privacy!

That’s why we wrote this whole dang thing–we want to make sure you know what to expect, and that we are as transparent as possible. Please humor us and read it carefully. By using this website, you accept the privacy policy and agree to be bound by it. If you do not want to agree to the privacy policy, you must not use or access the website. We also have general Terms and Conditions.

Who we are

We are Folk Art Flowers! Our website address is folkartflowers.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Orders

When you place an order on the website, at checkout we will ask you for certain personal information to make sure we can fulfill your order. This includes your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and any notes about your order. We will use this information to communicate with you about the order and to fulfill it. The form will also ask you for your credit card information so we can process the payment. Credit card information is NOT stored by Folk Art Flowers; it goes directly to our secure payment processor Stripe. Their privacy policy is available here, and by placing an order with us, you also accept their privacy policy and terms as relates to your payment data and agree to be bound by it.

When you check out, we will automatically create an account for you, which you will get an e-mail about. This lets you log in as a returning customer, which will allow you to use saved address data, as well as view past orders and manage your account. It also helps us manage your orders, and gives you the tools you need for managing your subscription. It’s your responsibility to make sure you have a secure password that is kept in a safe place. We are a forgetful bunch so we recommend 1Password.

Blog Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website, and we don’t want the internet to know where you live.

Newsletter

We have a little box on the bottom of this page where you can put in your e-mail address and subscribe to our newsletter, which is delivered by MailChimp. We will use that e-mail address to send you updates, special offers, and behind-the-scenes content. If you ever want to unsubscribe from the newsletter, just click the “Unsubscribe” link at the very bottom of the newsletter. We will never share or sell your e-mail address.

Contact forms

Our contact form is powered by HoneyBook, which is the app we use to communicate with our couples, manage their wedding details, and accept  payments. You can read their terms of service here. We will never share your submitted form details with a third party, unless you specifically ask us to, in writing. (For example, some couples want their wedding planner included on every e-mail, which we are happy to do.)

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Sometimes we will use aggregated website data to analyze our business performance. We will not be analyzing your individual account data unless we are fulfilling an order or troubleshooting something for you.

Who we share your data with

Your data are shared with a very small but trusted circle of people and apps. Website administrators can see your personal account information, which is necessary to troubleshoot your account and fulfill our accounting, tax, and legal obligations. If you submit an inquiry, your information will be shared with HoneyBook. If you sign up for the newsletter, your e-mail address will be shared with MailChimp. If you purchase something, your payment information will be collected, handled, and stored by Stripe.  The blog is public, so anything you post or comment on the blog will also be shared with the whole internet. To detect spam, visitors’ IP addresses and browser user agent strings may be sent to Gravatar. Other than that, we promise we will never share your data with anyone unless we explicitly ask you. We will also never automatically subscribe you to newsletter e-mails, even if we do your wedding and become best friends. Don’t you hate it when you buy something online and then get sporadic e-mails from them for the next 5 years? Well, we promise not to do that.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile on our e-commerce servers. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. Account information is stored indefinitely as well.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor blog comments may be checked through Gravatar, an automated spam detection service. Payment data are sent to Stripe. E-mail addresses for the newsletter sign-up are sent to MailChimp. Inquiry form data are sent to HoneyBook.

How we protect your data

When an account is created for you at checkout, the personal data in your account are only accessible to you and to a limited number of personnel who need access to that information to fulfill orders. Your data are always password-protected and backed up regularly to prevent unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. For data we send to third-party providers like MailChimp, HoneyBook, and Stripe, they have similar mechanisms in place to keep your data secure. Please review their privacy policies (which include data security information, and are linked above) for additional details.

What data breach procedures we have in place

If a data breach is discovered either on our website or on a third-party app, we will disclose it to you via e-mail within 48 hours of our discovery. We will ask users to update usernames, passwords, or take other actions based on the details of the breach.

What third parties we receive data from

Stripe tells us if payments are processed, and reminds us to collect payment if a card is cancelled or expired. MailChimp and HoneyBook tell us if they cannot deliver e-mail to you. Gravatar tells us if you are likely a spammer. Currently we do not receive any other data from any third parties. We are building this business organically…get it?! So we’ll never buy e-mail lists or do anything else like that.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

Some automated decision-making happens on the website and in our e-mail due to our spam filters for blog comments and e-mail. The only automated profiling we do is making sure we charge the right sales taxes based on your delivery address.

Additional Questions?

Wow, you made it all the way here. Congrats! If you have additional questions about anything, please read our Terms and Conditions.
